Guest Post - A Rose by Any Other Name by Landra Graf

Today, I want to welcome Landra Graf to my blog. She's talking about her Beyond Fairytales story called A Rose by Any Other Name.

Blurb

Zombies don’t belong in fairy tales….at least not those with a good chance of a happily ever after…
Jason Prince, Charming's once-upon-a-time star jock, only attends his Charming high school reunion to find his way into the heart of a certain wallflower who had no date for the prom.
Shy, geeky, chemical engineer, Emma Fay has been keeping her love for Jason a secret because she knows Jason and Rose belong together. But, when Rose Briar pricks her finger, fulfilling a prophecy about death and a plague, she throws a wrench into the class reunion that not even the best planning committee can tackle.
Can Jason and Emma stop Zombie Beauty Rose before she turns their loved ones into her undead court and sends them forth to spread the infestation to the rest of the world? Or will human flesh become the daily special at diners everywhere? And will there be enough left of Jason and Emma for romance to blossom?

Fairytale Twists
Thank you, Vicki, for hosting me on the big release day! Yes, today my Beyond Fairytale, A Rose By Any Other Name is available to read.  So, I'm going to talk about the fairytale this story is based on and how I twisted it.
Sleeping Beauty... what a tale. I remember my first experience with Sleeping Beauty. I was around four years old and received the Disney movie version on VHS. The songs, the characters, even the fairies. Then there was a call, an open submission call.
To be honest I wanted to give Sleeping Beauty a full twist. What if Beauty, Rose Brair, was a beauty before she fell asleep and not so much when she woke up? Undead Beauty would be a little more difficult to handle.
The Prince would need to put her down and the romance, I needed one. Enter a twist on fairies. To be honest there's nothing paranormal about Emaline Fay, her name is the closest to fairy that she comes.  From there solutions started flowing, plot, setting, and all the trimmings. Even a creepy old woman to predict the horrible future that will befall Rose and the town she lives in.
My question for readers today - what's your favorite kind of fairytale twist? Gender swapping, genre swapping, trope change?

Excerpt:
Her eyes darted back toward the examination room. He couldn’t hear anything that gave the impression things were worse than they’d been a few moments ago. In fact, the silence in the room made him anxious, and he started to tap his boot on the linoleum floor. The rising tension around them or the number of feelings invoked knowing someone he cared about lay suffering in the other room failed to help as well. He gave a little shiver and involuntarily gripped Emma’s hand tighter. She tried to pull away, but he wanted to hold on to her a little longer.
“All right then, let’s break up this mood. I’m going to read your palm.” He hoped the ploy would cast away her urges to break their bond.
“Palm reading?” One brown eyebrow lifted, but her frame and hand relaxed at his touch.
“Yes, I’ve studied with the finest masters fair corn dogs can buy.”
She giggled.
“I can tell you your future, Miss Emmaline Fay,” he said with a grin. She gave one back and the effect was breathtaking. She’d always possessed a beautiful smile, one known for lighting up rooms, and he enjoyed being the recipient.
“Fine, Master Prince. Tell me my future.”
Jason turned her palm over in his, trailing his fingers along the lines. Leaning in for a closer look, he picked up on the scent of vanilla, flowers, and a hint of something he couldn’t identify beyond pure Emma. The power of the smell made his groin swell again, something he didn’t need at the moment. One glance downward and she’d see the evidence of how she affected him.
So he thought about cold showers and his grandmother’s gnarly hands and focused on the soft palm covered with lines.
“Ah, your life line is extremely long. I also see a man in your love line. This is a man who has loved you for a long time and watched you from afar.”
She scoffed. “Sounds kind of creepy. I don’t know if I want a stalker in my life.”
“Not a stalker, but an admirer. He’s always appreciated your loyalty.” Jason locked eyes with her green ones. “Your kindness and bravery, too. And your ability to push ahead. Strength like that is rare.”
She leaned forward, her nose barely touching his. “How rare?”
“Uh.” His words caught in his throat. To have her so close, too close...exactly where he’d wanted her since he’d seen her sitting behind the wheel of her car. “Rare enough that I’ve only known one other person to possess it. I—”
“The fever is coming down,” Dr. Mason announced, bursting into the room, face filled with relief.
Jason silently swore as she jumped out of her chair and moved toward the entry. “Can we go in?”
“No, not yet. I want you both to stay here, though, in case you come down with the same thing due to proximity. We've taken blood, and we're doing everything we can, but I don’t know if this is contagious.” The doctor moved to a cabinet on the far wall and removed two blankets.
“You can camp out in the waiting room.”
“Completely understandable, Doc. I know we won’t leave until Rose is able to, anyway. We’ll want to be on the nurse-Rose-back-to-health team.” Jason stood to accept the blankets.
Her momentary excitement deflated, Emma shuffled back to her chair. “That’s right. I’ll be nursing our girl back to health or whatever else it takes, so I’m staying until everything is perfectly fine.”
“Good. I’ll see you both in the morning,” Dr. Mason said, leaving by way of the kitchen door. Jason could only imagine the amount of coffee the doctor planned on consuming for the night.
Emma curled up in her seat, slipping her feet out of her brown cowboy boots.
Jason sat down next to her and leaned back in his chair. “He certainly knows how to offer comfortable beds.”
“And there’s the sarcasm I know so well.” She leaned her head on his shoulder.
He tried to ignore how right it felt. “Yes, and that’s why you should just close your eyes and rest. Don’t worry. It’ll all be better in the morning.”

Hot Model Mine Book 2 by Lea Bronsen

Today, I want to welcome Lea Bronsen who is showcasing her new release, Book 2 of the Hot Model Mine series. I just watched the video and it looks great.

hotmodelmine

Book two of the Hot Model Mine trilogy is finally here! Did you wonder what happened to erotic romance author Andrea and her irresistible cover model, Yushka, after the conference in Cannes? In book one, The Perfect Shoot, things were complicated for the couple. He was much younger than her—practically the same age as her twins—and she'd spent half her life without a man. After much reflection, she ended up giving into her desire and taking Mr. Hot Model for lover. But what then after they traveled back to their separate lives? Wait no more: They're here to tell the continuation of their sizzling love story :)

minetolove2

BLURB:

The writing conference in sunny Cannes was fantastical, a dream. Back at home, reality catches up with author Andrea Johnson and the sexy cover model of her book, Yushka. With tough working schedules, challenging family relations, and seductive temptation from all sides, the couple’s explosive romance is put to the test. Will their love be strong enough to have a future?

BOOK TRAILER:

EXCERPT:

While Yushka gets his duffel bag in the back seat, I lean against the side of the Corolla and stretch my arms on top of its roof.

“You got everything?”

“Yeah.”

He lifts the bag over his shoulder and tilts his head in direction of the front door.

“We good to go?” My pulse beats a little faster at the thought of him dropping that bag on my bedroom floor and lifting me in his arms instead. I’m so excited to be with him, I simmer inside, aching to touch and hold him. I want to have all of him at once, right now. A spark of amusement plays in his gorgeous Asian eyes as he waits for me to make a move.

“What’s on your mind, Princess?” Holding his gaze, I smile, my fingers tapping a beat on the car hood to buy some time because I don’t know what to reply. I have a feeling whatever might come out of my mouth now, like I can’t wait to rip those clothes off you or I’m going to make you scream, will sound too cheesy. Why do we need to put our attraction into words, anyway? Once we’re home, there’ll be no reason to talk that much. We’ll do the talking with our more-than-capable hands and … um … mouths.

I tap a quick rap before stepping back from the car. “Come on.”

“Okay.” Widening his smile, he follows me to the front entrance.

I unlock and push the wood door open.

“I hope your bag’s not too heavy. The elevator doesn’t work.”

“When are they gonna fix it?”

“Huh, good question.” I step forward, but when in the doorway, I spin to hold the door open for him.

“I have no idea.”

“No?” With a raised brow, he passes me. Just then, I move toward him, chest-to-chest, blocking him and his thick bag between myself and the doorframe.

“Oh!” He laughs. As the door pushes into my back, squeezing me tighter against him, I put my hands on his waist. First above his clothes––the thick leather jacket and his shirt––then sneaking underneath both of them, my fingers splaying on his warm skin and stroking him. Completely stuck, he tilts his head and stares into my eyes, his own sparkling with playfulness.

“What are you up to?”

“You have a problem?” I move my hands out from beneath his shirt and go downward to palm his tight ass cheeks, pulling his crotch to me. My lower stomach and increasingly heating inner thighs seek to meet his. I want to be so near him he’ll feel my lust, and I want his lust to grow, too. I need us to join and be a match, a melting pot of desire, irresistible and untamable.

“I have to bribe you?” he asks, voice lower, and leans down to kiss me. How did he guess? At the warm touch of his parted lips, delight rushes through me as if I’d had a shot of alcohol. He retreats his face a few inches, enough to have a view of what he just kissed.

“This good enough for you?” His voice comes out husky, a bit short of breath. With his free hand, he strokes and kneads my butt.

“One more,” I mouth with the next exhale of air.

Though the door bores painfully into my back, I don’t want to move, loving the feel of being so close to Yushka, so intimate. It’s amazing how instantaneous and intense our connection is. Just wait till we get our clothes off. Again, his warm lips land on mine, and we kiss greedily, nose-to-nose, wet tongues playing with each other. My inner pussy muscles clench, remembering too well what it’s like to have his cock inside. I breathe faster. A growing hardness in his crotch presses against me, provoking more tightening. Oh, God. Hot wetness glides down my pussy, wetting my panties. So ready, so soon… I mew into his mouth, and he rewards me with a guttural response, our mouths practically eating each other. But this isn’t the right place. We need to move and play this torturous game and its grand finale somewhere else. Releasing his lips, I gasp from our separation, but still manage to pull away.

“Fuck, you’re hot.” He inhales deeply and looks up, feverish eyes widening and trying to refocus. As I step backward, forcing the door to open again, cold evening air sneaks between our heated bodies.

“Let’s go,” I say with a croak, my chest heaving. He gives a small nod and steps inside the low-lit lobby.

My Review:

London has a beautiful writing style - lyrical, descriptive, brimming with life. She took me right into the scene and got me invested in the characters - I like them all. I love cowboy romances. I think I'm a real redneck (as my son calls me). I loved the accents in the narration. I enjoyed the feel of the book. Audio book is sometimes difficult for me as I find the best time is when I'm driving but I don't drive often. Other times I listen is in the kitchen, but when it gets to a sex scene I have to switch it off as I have three kids under 18 within hearing distance. But I really enjoyed this one when I got a chance. I think it helped to hear the accents as opposed to reading them. I won't give this book a rating as I see it more as a prequel to the series. It ends with a cliffhanger so I don't suggest reading it alone. I certainly do want to find out what's going to happen next but will probably look at buying the kindle book instead due to my lack of privacy.

Great sexual tension, setting, writing style and potential for a conflict-filled romance.

Today, I want to welcome fellow Beyond Fairytales author, Landra Graf. She's talking about her new release and a vital ingredient to writing spicy romance. (This is one of the things I struggle with the most and also find puts me off a book if it's not there.) Isn't it a stunning cover??

Guest Post - The Art of Tension

Thank you Vicki for having me on your blog today! Readers, I've got a special treat for you. An exclusive excerpt, but first... let's talk tension.

For some reason tension, especially sexual, gets me going every dang time. Without fail if the author nails the tension piece I'm in it for the long haul. So, like any good author/reader I want to replicate what I love in other books in my own. But tension is hard to write, hard to drive up and up and up. When do you reach the breaking point. When is it time to cross the line and let the characters give in. Who knows? My characters tend to tell me when they've had enough.

Tension is also hard to fake. Characters have it or they don't. It plays the best through dialogue as well as actions. It typically works well in close quarters or cramped spaces. In fact, I have a scene like that, several actually, but this particular one shows the stakes being upped, emotionally and physically.  That's the job tension plays. It raises the risk, the level of play goes off of the charts. Oh, wait. You probably just want to read the scene. So I won't keep you.

He stepped through the door, filling up the space and reminding her of how small the roo really was.

“If I recall, I never said I wanted you to off the guy.” He set the coffee cup in his hand down on the small table near the door. “Since I finished my breakfast, I wanted to talk about getting off the ship to prepare for tonight.”

“I have everything I need.”

Shaking his head, he strode closer. Instinctively, she put a hand on the balisong holder at her waist, more to stop herself from reaching out than because she feared him. “You may have what you need, but if I show up in these clothes, they’ll call the coppers.”

She took in his worn jacket, his white shirt dirtied by days of wear, his trousers in need of a wash, and his dusty brown boots. Valid point. “All right, that’s fine. Anything else?”

“Your crew is worried about our meeting with the canary...eh, the singer. They want me to agree to protect you.”

Of course, Bonita and Bastille would enlist him to watch over her. They’d avoided Germany for the last few years because the government wanted her back so badly. Her wedding was still scheduled to take place in six months. All she had to do was stay in hiding for that long; instead, the desire to find her brother had her doing dangerous things. “Did you agree?”

“No, I don’t do anything unless something is in it for me.”

Her fingers twitched, and she tapped her foot on the floor. Damn men who didn’t say what they meant. “And what do you want?”

The question earned her a smile and the presence of his face less than six inches from hers.
She wanted to kiss those lips, taste him again, and wondered if she’d taste the coffee he’d drunk earlier. “I want you and me alone in a room for one hour. I want you to tell me everything.”

“Everything?”

“All the things you’re not telling me. Why people are worried about this ball, why that little girl thinks you’re a princess, and what you told Janken to get him to tell us about Luther and Eva.”

“You’re not asking a lot, are you?” she replied with as much sarcasm as she could muster.

He was standing too close.

“No, I’m really not because I want other things, too.”

He dared her with those words and the twinkle in his eye. Dared her to ask what those other things were. She refused to give in. “I agree.”

“With what I want or to wanting other things?” He was truly a master at manipulating words, no doubt a formidable merchant.

“I agree to tell you everything. My only condition—we won’t leave until we have a location for The Cursed.”

His turn to extend his hand. “It’s a deal, and I’ll even protect you, too.”

Touching his palm to seal the agreement was a mistake. It cost her a shiver and revealed how much he affected her. Surprisingly, he didn’t take advantage of the moment, no leaning in for a chaste kiss, no grazing her bosom, nothing more than a handshake and a release.

The fact he seemed unaffected by their momentary connection aggravated her. No sense in letting him have the upper hand. She unclasped her balisong and flipped it out, bringing the tip up under his chin. “When I want your protection, I’ll ask for it.”

She pushed him to the side and walked out. Let him wonder whether she wanted to kill him or not. She had things to do before tonight.

Ooh, I see the tension.

Interview:

Who would be in your cast if your book was made into a TV show or movie?
Thank you for having me today, Vicki! If Beneath the Starry Sky became a TV show or movie, I would pick Josh Duhamel to play my hero, Josh. (Yes, he was the inspiration.) And I would pick Jennifer Aniston to play Tamara.

Which character would you most like to spend time with and why?
I would love to spend time with either one of them. They are both down-to-Earth characters who have had to learn to deal with changes in their lives. They’ve made tough decisions and are stronger for it.

Would you like to live in the world you created?
This story begins in Las Vegas, which to be honest, holds no appeal to me. I’m not one for big cities. But, they do end up hiking at Mount Charlston, which I would love to visit.

Which trait do you most like in your MC?
I like Tamara’s spunk. She does deal with some vulnerability due to her alopecia, but when she’s feeling confident, watch out!

Your MC is having a relaxing evening at home. What is he or she doing?

If she’s alone, she’s likely reading with a glass of wine. If Josh is with her, well, I’m sure you can imagine. ;)

Guest Post and Review - Taken by The Billionaire Alien Next Door by Jessica Subject

Today, I welcome Jessica Subject to my blog. She works for Decadent Publishing and also writes for them and is always so supportive of other authors. She's talking about her new novella, Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door.

Taken by the Billionaire Alien Next Door
By Jessica E. Subject

Erotic Sci-Fi Romance
ISBN: 978-0-9948431-0-4

Living on the other side of the tracks was a fantasy Erika never expected to come true. But when her mother marries an investment banker, she moves to a home larger than all her previous houses combined. While searching for her new stepbrother to help with unpacking, she stumbles upon his smokin’ hot neighbor, all alone in his mansion and busy at work on a… flying saucer? Can Erika escape before he notices her, or will she be abducted by the sexy alien?

Available from:
Amazon US / UK | All Romance | Nook | Play | iBooks | Kobo

Excerpt - 18+

“What exactly do you think I am, Miss Erika?”
“An alien.” There, I’d said it, and I expected him to laugh in my face and deny it.
Instead, he placed his hands behind his back and stepped nearer. “And what if I am?”
My breath caught. “I….” I should have kept my mouth shut. No, I should have waited for Barron to text a reply, never come over to the neighbor’s house. Now, I was stuck in a basement hangar with a flying saucer and a guy who could be from another planet.
Laken inched closer, and closer still. I moved along with him until my back hit a wall on the other side of the room. Trapped. Trying to duck away wouldn’t do me any good. He’d only race around and block my way again. My heart beat so hard, I expected it to thump right out of my chest. Would he let me go, or did he have other plans? If I screamed loud enough, would someone come to my rescue?
Leaning forward, he placed his palm on the wall behind me. “What if I told you I knew the instant you came into this room?” He ran his other hand along my cheekbone, tucking my hair behind an ear. “What if I told you I could feel your attraction, smell your sex?”
A shiver raced down my spine. Sure, I wanted to jump his bones before I’d seen his eyes. Now, I yearned for a way out, a clear path to escape from Mr. Sex-on-a-stick who may or may not be an extraterrestrial.
He dipped his head so close to mine, his warm breath brushed my neck. A flash of heat washed over me. Fuck, it had been so long since I’d been with any guy. Did it really matter where he came from?
“What if, Erika? If I am an alien? Would you still find me attractive? Would you still want to lick me from head to toe? Suck my cock? Would you want me to fuck you against this wall, in my spaceship, and on every single surface of this room?”

Guest Post

I asked Jessica what inspires her to write alien romances as she's written so many. Over to you, Jess...

Hi Vicki! Thank you so much for inviting me to your blog today!

Whenever I have a new release, or when I tell people what I write, I am often asked why I write about aliens. For me, there are many reasons, but I think the main one is that an alien character can be whoever I want him or her to be. I can make my heroes very dominant, or more on the submissive side. I can make them humanoid or appear more like a giant insect. If I want them to have blue skin (which is my favorite), I can do that, too. They can be bikers, billionaires, blue collar workers, or businessmen or women. They might want to abduct a lover from Earth, or simply live on the planet without anyone finding out where they came from. Aliens living on Earth are my favorite, too, because of their vulnerability. They know if anyone finds out, they could end up in a laboratory. So, when they finally tell someone, it means they trust that person with their life.

I love my aliens, and I will continue to tell their stories for as long as I am writing. I hope you can give a sexy alien a chance.

I love the ideas you come up with and you've certainly piqued my interest in alien romances.

My Review:

This is a short, impactful story with lots of hotness. If you like reading a hot romance - a short bite for a Sunday afternoon or lazy evening with steamy sex, this is a great read. I like the way the author told a story and gave us the depths of emotions to make it more than a couple of sex scenes. It was sexy, touching, full of surprises and well-written. To be honest, I would have preferred it to be longer but it tempted me to try more of her romances though.
